Automotive Design Internship - Sheet Metal - B2



     This internship will be the gateway for you to start a dream career in the design sector. You will be trained & involved with industry experts who have worked at Mercedes Benz, Lotus, Renault & Honda to learn and undergo on-job industry projects.  


Over the span of 4 weeks, you will gain the expertise to design sheet metal components, understand the manufacturing of sheet metal parts, parts specific to automotive, build an (Die design) tool for manufacturing, create engineering drawings and to get a crystal clarity of the scope of your job and perform real-time projects to industry standards.



Week-wise details 


Week 1


The objective of week 1 is to provide the solid foundation on lifecycle such as; engineering design, simulation, manufacturing, testing, quality, tools used, skills sets required by engineers, industries involved in the relevant sectors will be demonstrated with live hands-on practical’s.

Week 2


The objective of week 2 is to train interns on the sheet metal part design. Interns will gain expertise to model parts in CAD software with the right industry approach under expert guidance.


  1.  Overview of Automotive SHM parts
  2.  Materials
  3.  Design & development lifecycle
  4.  Overview of the software’s used
  5.  Design rules for forming Al & steel
  6.  CAD methodology
  7.  One live project to be completed by participants using CAD



Week 3 & 4


The objective of week 3 is to train interns on SHM manufacturing, Die design, carry our hands-on projects and get prepared to face interviews for the career.


  1.  Overview of production processes
    1. Shearing, bending, drawing
  2.  Machines
    1. Press (mechanical & hydraulic)
  3. Tool & die
  4. Stamping die design (including calculations)
    1. One live project to be completed by participants using CAD
    2. 3D + 2D manufacturing drawings
  5.  Tool materials for stamping dies
  6.  Manufacturing processes of stamping dies
  7.  Overview of automotive panel die design
    1. Blank, draw, trim, pierce, & restrike.
  8.  Career opportunities
